JLC Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 Art Drawing
$8,550.00 CAD + applicable taxes
This original JLC Reverso drawing explores the layered mechanics, architectural structure, and intricate craftsmanship behind the Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 through detailed graphite artwork inspired by luxury horology.
Some drawings stay with you long after they’re finished. The JLC Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 is THAT piece. It shifted the way I approached both watches and drawing itself. Even now, I still find myself coming back to it whenever I need to reconnect with why I love doing this in the first place.
Why This Watch?
What pulled me in initially was the overwhelming level of detail. The more I studied the watch, the more it felt impossible to draw it. Every angle introduced another detail to study, another reflection to understand, or another mechanical relationship hidden within the structure itself. I ended up studying references, movement details, lunar and draconian cycles, fonts, textures, and multiple video sources just to better understand how the watch actually functioned beyond photographs alone.
Coming from a background influenced by both art and architecture, pieces like this naturally pull me in. The Reverso’s layered construction, mechanical complexity, and constantly shifting visual balance made it impossible for me to resist drawing.

Beyond the Drawing
A lot of people assume hyperrealism is simply about copying a photograph, but pieces like this involve much more behind the scenes. This drawing alone required countless hours of observation, research, layering, corrections, and reworking tiny details that often disappear entirely in full-view images. Some sections became so detailed that I found myself almost wishing for a magnifying glass.
If you’d like to explore more hyperrealistic watch art, you can also browse the full Horology Portfolio and the available Original Watch Drawings collection. Limited edition watch giclée prints inspired by this artwork are also available. I regularly share close-up details, process videos, and studio moments on Instagram, especially the parts of the drawing that often go unnoticed at first glance. This drawing also played a big role in shaping the level of detail and research I now bring into custom watch drawing commissions.
