Black Tears is a charcoal portrait from 2008, drawn on Bristol paper. It’s one of those early drawings where I was experimenting with heavy contrast and mood. The close-up composition, the deep shadows, and the dramatic dripping ‘tears’ were very much part of that phase where I pushed charcoal as far as it would go. Even after all these years, it still feels like a small snapshot of my early style, bold, a bit theatrical, and definitely teenager-me trying things without overthinking them.
